When it comes to Irish Poker players, one name stands out amongst the rest and that is Andy Black. Andy Black is an Irish Poker Pro who was born in Belfast during the 60’s and has held residence in Dublin for most of his playing career. Black is considered to be one of the old school poker players who has been playing and performing well on the biggest stages in poker since before the poker boom occurred back in 2003. However unlike many of the older pros who ended up slowly disappearing from the spotlight Black has remained relevant throughout and certainly been a great asset to Irish Poker

Black has made 24 money finishes in the World Series of Poker, 3 money finishes in the World Poker Tour, and 5 money finishes in the European poker tour which has seen his winnings exceed $4.4 million in prizes now! The only stain on Blacks record is that he hasn’t been able to take down a tittle yet which people believe has been long overdue now and making Black one of the best poker players around not to have one. However while he does not have a title to his name yet he does have one thing that most other top poker pros can’t attest to, and that’s a WSOP main event final table.

To most making the final table of this event is the same as winning a bracelet as this $10,000 event normally has between 6-7000 runners in it already making even the final table be a huge challenge to even the best. Black finished 5th here in 2005 for a $750,000 paycheck so he can certainly hold his head up high! Overall it’s hard to argue that Andy Black is not the most successful Irish Poker player of all time. Although with the huge rise in popularity of poker in Ireland it may not be long before Ireland has a new champion they can cheer for alongside Black himself!
