There are a lot of different strategies when at a poker table that can be used to counter the particular strategies of a certain players at the poker table. However when it comes to Sit n Go's and to a certain extent tournaments there is a new dynamic which has to be taken into account and this means that there is an overall strategy that when applied to a Sit n Go will give you an advantage over your opponents. If you played in a Sit n Go with 10 players that cost $10 to enter the usual payout would be $50 to first place, $30 to second place, and finally $20 to third place.
This means that if you were to win all the chips at the table you still would not win all the money (in fact only $50), conversely if you had only 1 chip left in the tournament you could still finish in a cash position, however if you had just 1 chip less than that(0 chips) you couldn't win anything. This means that the chips you have aren't worth the same throughout the tournament, and the more chips you have, the less each individual chips is worth! What this means for players looking to have a good strategy for Sit n Go's is that they have to take this into account, and their goal should be to not spend 10 chips to try and win 10 chips back as each chip you gain is worth less than each chip you lose! During a Sit n Go the blinds in the tournament will increase every 5 to 10mins and this is to force the game to come to an end at some point.
The best strategy that a player can use in a Sit n Go therefore is to play very tight in the early parts of the game because there aren't a lot of chips to be won compared to later on in the event. Furthermore as players begin to get put out the tournament you get one step closer to making money with each one so sitting back here when there isn't much to lose is usually the best plan. As the blinds begin to increase and they represent a larger portion of your stack here you will want to get more aggressive and play more hands. This is because now the chips that can be won are far more valuable and worth the risk, and secondly because you have been playing tighter earlier in the tournament players may give you more respect for a good hand and so you can steal these large blinds much easier. The final part of any solid Sit n Go strategy is the bubble play.
The bubble is the stage of the game where once one person is eliminated from the event, everyone else gets paid. At this point of the game everyone will tighten up because they would like to simply wait for the bubble to burst and to get into the money. This is the perfect point for a player to loosen up and steal lots of chips as people will often fold too much and so the task will be much easier. Quite often a player can double his stack size without ever showing down a hand on the bubble just because of the tight play of his opponents. So if you're looking to take your Sit n Go game to the next level we suggest you try out this strategy and fully expect your profits at the game to increase substantially!
