The straight flush is such a rare sight in poker that the average player may not see too many of them across their entire playing career. A straight flush is exactly as the name would suggest it is and that’s a combination of a straight and a flush - aka a straight all of the same suit. There are only 36 unique straight flushes in No Limit Hold’em and they are the A-5 straight flush through to the 9-K straight flush in each of the four different suits.

The odds of making a straight flush in poker are a massive 72,000 to 1 which is both a good and a bad thing really. The obvious reason this is seen as a bad thing is that you simply won’t make a straight flush very often, although the flip side to this is it just adds to the excitement when you finally do! The clear benefit to the straight flush however is that when it is made you can stand to win yourself a huge pot and the chances of this happening are increased by the fact that people are far less likely to put you on the straight flush since it’s so rare to make and therefore will be willing to pay off large bets with slightly weaker hands. While it’s true there’s never really a bad board for a straight flush there are certainly better boards than others for your hand.

Afterall the aim of the game is to get as many chips(or money) from your opponent as possible and therefore you want to disguise the strength of your hand as much as possible. For this reason paired boards are typically the best boards to make a straight flush on. The reason for this is that now your opponent can reasonably have full houses as one of their potential hands which is going to be one hand opponents will rarely fold! On the flip side if you have a non paired board and there are 3 cards to a flush out already, then the only likely holding that will pay off a big bet is an Ace high regular flush.

If you are lucky though an opponent may still pay off a big bet with three of a kind or two pair however the general plan should be to check any flop and turn when you have the straight flush to let your opponent catch up a little! In the end you’ve got to be very lucky to make a straight flush while playing your Mobile Poker however you can certainly increase the odds of making one by playing suited connectors such as the 67 of clubs or the JT of hearts and so on. With the ability to make straights, flushes, and of course straight flushes they are many players favourite hands for a reason! Our advice would be that when you do make your straight flush, take a look at the board and the more likely they are to have a big hand the more you should bet!
